Chekka Chivantha Vaanam | The Return of Mani Ratnam and the powerful Gangster movies.

After a disastrous dud with the previous outing,  Mani Ratnam  is well and truly back to his  Nayakan  days with  Chekka Chivantha Vaanam .   From the day the trailer of this multi-starrer hit YouTube , there had been a lot of intrigue surrounding it. A huge and powerful star cast consisting of   Vijay Sethupathi ,  Arvind Swamy ,  Jyothika ,  Arun Vijay ,  Prakash Raj ,  Aishwarya Rajesh and T.R. Silambarasan  meant that there would be lot of questions surrounding how well they were utilized and who scored the brownie points. If it were any other director/writer it would have been risky business but not for Mani Ratnam. Add to all this, when you have the magic of the  Santosh Sivan  canvas and  A.R. Rahman  music pepping up every single scene with some powerful BGM you have an instant classic. Jake Epping  ( James Franco  ) is a high school teacher who travels back in time to 1960, through a time portal that was revealed to him by his friend and cafe owner Al Templeton . The time portal located in Al's Cafe closet lets them travel back to October 21'st 1960 every single time and however long they stay back in the past, its always just 2 minutes that elapses in the present. After multiple failed attempts and now dying of cancer, Al requests Jake to travel back in time so that he could prevent the JFK assassination (as he believes if JFK had survived, the world would have been a better place) by taking out  Lee Harvey Oswald  ( Daniel Webber ) and finding out if anybody else was involved in the same.
